Companies that create discrete products do so by designing assemblies comprised of individual components. A component (sometimes referred to as an item or part) is a key part of the product. Product assemblies are documented and defined using bills of materials (BOMs) that provide the full recipe required to build the finished product.
Sensors, integrated circuits (ICs), capacitors, transistors, and batteries are examples of components.
