What is a Child Item?

A child item or part is an item that appears in a parent or using assembly. Parent items refer to the are higher-level assemblies and child items refer to the component parts that are needed to build the parent assembly (BOM). For example, if you had a bike as the parent assembly, the child items would include those parts that make up the entire bike such as tires, frame, handlebars, brakes, and a seat.
