Nathan: Automated BOM Compliance creates a connected compliance framework that spans supplier items, items, and assemblies. The feature builds on the automated supplier item compliance capabilities we introduced previously and extends those benefits throughout the product structure.
The system automatically aggregates compliance data from the bottom up. Compliance status and evidence roll up from the associated supplier items and sourcing relationships. If an item has multiple approved sources, Arena collects the compliance information and evidence from those sources and presents them at the item level. From there, compliance continues to roll up through the BOM. Assembly-level compliance is calculated using the child items within the structure, providing visibility into the compliance status of an entire product or assembly.
Instead of manually updating compliance information across multiple levels, organizations access a single system that continuously maintains those relationships. In essence, teams gain immediate insight into product-level compliance without performing manual calculations or reviewing separate reports.
What compliance requirements are included by default?
Nathan: We provide five Arena-defined compliance requirements for product items and assemblies that organizations can use immediately:
- EU RoHS
- China RoHS
- REACH
- Conflict minerals
- Proposition 65
These are among the most commonly tracked environmental and regulatory requirements for manufacturers operating in global markets. Teams can enable them directly in their Arena workspace settings and apply them to selected item categories.
How does Arena SCI determine compliance when multiple suppliers or components are involved?
Nathan: We use what we call a “weakest link” model. If any component is identified as noncompliant, that status propagates up through the product structure. It becomes visible at the item level and continues to roll up into the assembly.

Nathan: Users can open the Compliance BOM view in Arena to check the BOM’s compliance status and that of all contributing child items. They can also drill into the details to review the evidence underlying a compliance determination.
For example, if a BOM shows a “noncompliant” status, teams can quickly pinpoint the specific component(s) responsible for the issue. They can then evaluate alternative sourcing options, update the BOM, and immediately see the impact on overall compliance. The system continuously reflects those changes as product information evolves.
How does Arena keep compliance information current?
Nathan: Arena SCI continuously updates compliance information for working and effective revisions as new data becomes available. When new declarations are released or regulatory requirements evolve, those changes automatically flow through the product structure. Because Arena SCI pulls compliance data from Accuris, the industry’s leading electronic component data source, teams always have access to up-to-date information without having to manually recalculate or revalidate assemblies.
What support does the solution provide for regulatory audits and reporting?
Nathan: Audit readiness was a key design objective for this PLM and QMS software release.
Users can generate compliance reports directly from the Compliance BOM view in Excel or CSV format. They can also include evidence files, which contain supporting documentation for the associated supplier items, and package them into a single export.
We also preserve historical compliance records. When revisions are superseded, Arena captures a snapshot of the compliance status and locks it for historical reference. This creates a traceable record of compliance at a specific point in time, which is valuable for customer inquiries, regulatory audits, and internal reviews.
