What is Product Data?

Product Data Definition

Product data is all the information that supports the design, production, delivery, and maintenance of products. This includes requirements, technical specifications, drawings, parts, assemblies, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, compliance evidence, and approved manufacturer/supplier lists (AMLs/ASLs).

Information is typically stored and maintained in a product lifecycle management (PLM) system which enables companies to review and approve designs and perform other product-related activities throughout the entire lifecycle.

Through enterprise integrations, product data can be electronically transmitted from PLM to enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and other downstream systems to support production, customer service, sales, and other critical business functions.
