What is Requirements Management?

Requirements management ensures that the end product performs as intended and meets the needs of the customer. It helps product teams identify errors or issues early on in the development phase and reduce the likelihood of failures post-launch. Product teams can trace requirements to the product design elements and gain visibility into the impact of changes on those various elements.

Requirements management involves the following steps:

1. Gather: Collect initial requirements from customers and internal teams
2. Analyze: Determine whether proposed requirements align with the company’s business goals and objectives
3. Define: Document requirements from user perspective and detail functional or technical requirements
4. Prioritize: Identify requirements that should be included in upcoming product release
5. Validate and maintain: Verify that the product functions for the end user as intended and update requirements as needed
