With over 50 years of expertise in the development of pipeline services, T.D. Williamson, Inc. provides pipeline pigging solutions, launching and receiving systems and geometry inspection services.

Pigging, in the context of pipelines, refers to the practice of using devices known as “pigs” to perform various maintenance operations. This is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.

T.D. Williamson Applications Analyst Rafael Leano, a longtime customer user of Arena, goes back in time to tell the story of how Arena helped with the development of T.D. Williamson’s 20 inch DEF2 In-line Inspection Tool.

Here’s Rafael’s story:

2008 was a very busy year for me because our Arena PLM implementation was in full development. At the same time our Engineering department, which for many years developed multiple sizes of In-line inspection with DEF technologies, were tasked to design the first 2nd generation of DEF tools or “DEF2”. The task was monumental because it had the objective to design, verify, and validate the tool on a Field testing pilot run, all in the same year.

Prior to using Arena, our NPI cycles were more difficult. Arena enabled my company to accomplish the goal of organizing the information of all configurations of the Tools and equipment we use to provide our services, instate a change management system, and enable Supplier collaboration.

Arena enabled us to provide access to drawings and other documents to multiple types of employees that before could not do it by themselves, except by asking Engineering to provide documentation.

Because of the success in developing the new product, our team had a celebration party. Here is a picture of the tool taken at our celebration party after completing the pilot run.

Because of this tremendous undertaking, the company awarded Mindi Novasio (Technical Writer) and myself with the Play of the Month award for our hard efforts to release the 20” DEF2 in a timely manner while piloting the Field Testing phase in the new product development process.

At the end of the year I was awarded with the 2008 Service Excellence Award due to significant efforts done on important projects for my company. 2008 was just the second year of using Arena PLM and it brought to us an immense benefit to reach our goal to become the world’s most trusted solutions provider for pressurized piping systems. The company managers gifted me a jacket as part of the award that currently brings me really good memories. I am very thankful to have worked with Arena and with the support team that helped me greatly in these projects.

With almost ten years of using Arena, Rafael’s story demonstrates how we help enterprise companies like T.D. Williamson grow. So whether your sector is pigging or rigging, Arena is the product development solution chosen by more innovative companies. We love hearing our customers share their business success stories.
