AWS GovCloud Definition
Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud (US) region was created to meet the specific security, compliance, and regulatory requirements of US government agencies, defense contractors, and businesses operating in highly regulated sectors, such as manufacturing. It ensures compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (SRG). It offers a secure, isolated environment to process and store sensitive Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
With AWS GovCloud, defense manufacturers can exploit cloud technologies while meeting strict compliance criteria. Manufacturers that interact directly or indirectly with the government have the infrastructure needed to support handling sensitive data. This enables supply chain management, product development, and manufacturing operations to be more innovative and agile within a safe and legal cloud ecosystem.
