How it works
Arena PLM provides one central location for all product definition data, from part numbers to part lifecycle status, and from datasheets to costing information. The Arena PLM EDA Adapter constantly updates the EDA tool’s library with electronic component data from Arena PLM.

• Component data for use in schematic design is securely stored and available for review, analysis, and change management processes in Arena PLM.
• Arena PLM EDA Adapter connects to Arena PLM and transfers data through the corporate firewall using https.
• Arena PLM EDA Adapter reconciles a local database with updated component data in Arena PLM.
• The EDA tool interfaces with the local database using ODBC.
• Sophisticated cost management and analysis tools in Arena PLM generate fully-costed BOMs for prototype and production runs.
• Secure sharing tools enable component suppliers, fabrication houses, and assemblers to view BOMs and provide instant, accurate cost quotes.

Arena PLM EDA Adapter supports the following functionality:

• Reuse Parts from Preferred Parts Database. Parts with schematic symbol information managed in Arena PLM can be placed in a design within the EDA tool.
• View Database Parts. Get the latest information on a part from Arena PLM, including all custom properties.
• Database Explorer. Search for parts based on parametric information or view parts by part type.
• Component Verification. Compare transferred properties on the design against property values on the effective revision of the item in Arena PLM.
• Bill of Materials. Properties from Arena PLM can be included in the BOM without having the properties populated on the part. For example, when a part is placed from Arena PLM, datasheet information available on the effective revision of the item can be included on the BOM without having to transfer the datasheet onto the design.
