When it comes to the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive, good things do not come to those who wait. This directive, which severely limits the use of six hazardous substances—most notably, lead (Pb)—in products shipped to the European Union (EU), took place in July 2006. Similar requirements exist in China, Taiwan, Japan, and other countries.
The impact of this directive may cause what we believe to be a “perfect storm” in the supply chain. Ultimately, RoHS will clearly delineate those companies who embrace it from those who resist it—that is, those who weather the storm and those who do not. RoHS therefore requires sound, well-considered and proactive measures.
