A supply chain perspective on PLM and BOM management
Our friend Shaun Snapp over at SCMFocus has a great blog post explaining some of the differences between dedicated bill of materials (BOM) management solutions and product lifecycle management (PLM) functionality that’s built into and distributed across ERP and other planning systems. He has an interesting take on the topic, which comes from his supply chain management/product execution focus and is different from the product design/engineering perspective that normally drives discussions of PLM and BOM management.
Snapp makes the case for BOM management, putting forth a view that different aspects of a product’s lifecycle can be managed in different systems but the bill of materials and its lifecycle must be managed in a single system of record. Read the full post to learn more.
