Arena Solutions to Demonstrate Arena PLM-PDMWorks(TM) Integration at SolidWorks World 2004
Foster City, Calif., Jan 15 - Arena Solutions, Inc., the leading provider of online product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, will demonstrate a new integration of Arena PLM and SolidWorks' PDMWorks software at SolidWorks World 2004 from January 17-21 in Boston, Massachusetts. The integration provides manufacturers using PDMWorks software with new capabilities for sharing and controlling changes to CAD files, including the ability to tie CAD drawings into the complete product record and extend engineering change order (ECO) control to CAD files. This new solution also lets designers share CAD files in a controlled and secure PLM environment with globally dispersed suppliers and partners. In combination, these capabilities improve engineering and manufacturing efficiencies that enable faster design cycles with improved levels of change control.
“The Arena PLM-PDMWorks solution gives us real-time access to a more complete product record, which we expect will help us reduce errors and rework and bring products to market faster,” explains Tim Kelliher, co-founder and vice president of hardware engineering for Pedestal Networks, an Arena customer. “Arena PLM is our central repository for all our product related information, not just our CAD data. The Arena PLM-PDMWorks solution makes it extremely easy for our engineers to associate a complete and accurate set of design drawings to the bill of materials throughout the design cycle. The solution also provides clear traceability, that is, a record of all changes to the mechanical designs. In this way, the entire design and manufacturing team—our design partners as well as our contract manufacturers—can work together to make the design less expensive to manufacture and speed the design-to-manufacturing cycle.”
With the Arena PLM-PDMWorks integration solution, engineers can focus on their core responsibilities of designing parts and assemblies rather than worrying about the tedium of producing and distributing files. As soon as a CAD engineer releases a file in PDMWorks, it automatically becomes available in Arena PLM in an easy, readable distribution format, such as eDrawings™ or PDF. It is then instantly accessible as part of a complete product record—including other non-modeled product data—to the entire design and manufacturing team for review, markup, comment and approval. Metadata such as titles, revisions and authors are all transferred with the files to Arena PLM.
Arena PLM-PDMWorks also extends Arena's powerful change control functionality to CAD drawings in the context of the complete product record. Engineers are no longer faced with the ambiguity of determining whether drawings that have been “released” in the PDMWorks vault are associated with an effective version of an item in production. All changes to actual product definition data are completely ECO-controlled within Arena PLM, providing a complete and current view of production data. By using Arena PLM's electronic change management functionality, engineers can control the release of all new data to manufacturing and maintain a complete change history. This is a key requirement in total quality management and to obtain ISO or FDA compliance.
